The Giants of Kew-Tony Kirkham
We look forward to welcoming you on Wednesday evening to our February KeWI meeting when our speaker will be Tony Kirkham. Tony is a good friend to the Kew community, having worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens since 1978. He is Head of The RBG, Kew Arboretum and you may well recognise him as the star of TV’S “A year in Kew” and “The Trees that Made Britain”. With a reputation for being an excellent speaker and known to have an infectious enthusiasm for his subject, we are sure to have a wonderful evening in his company. Wednesday 11th February 7.30 pm, St Anne’s Church Hall KeWI monthly meetings are also a chance to meet and mingle with old friends and new. We are delighted to be able to welcome a number of new members to our ranks this year, including some women completely new to the area. Please look out for new faces, introduce yourselves and make them feel welcome. Refreshments are always available for a voluntary donation which is exactly that, simply voluntary. The women often arrive terribly distressed with nothing but their children and the clothes on their backs. Denise, the Manager at The Chiswick Safe Houses, has asked for help with essential toiletries, non-perishable foodstuffs such as dried pasta, tinned food, teabags and coffee as well as baby essentials such as wipes, nappies or clean good quality children’s/baby's clothing. Thank you so much. You are always so generous and we know it really is appreciated. Our Programme of Speakers We have an amazing line up of speakers for you this year and our new programme is available to view on our website. We will have some hard copies to share on Wednesday. Incidentally, we are already beginning to plan our programme for 2016 and are always happy to hear from our members with ideas for speakers or workshops. The more the merrier, and all ideas considered so please do get in touch. Marmalade It’s that time of year again. Here is an old Katie Stewart Recipe for Marmalade from The Times Cookbook which was recommended by one of our members. Thanks Ann. If you are making marmalade, why not put a jar or two aside for our stall at The KeWI Midsummer Fete, later in the year. Let us know how you get on..Thank you in sticky anticipation! The NFWI Nominations to The Board of Trustees We’ve received a mailing from the National Federation of the WI (NFWI) asking us to nominate candidates for the new NFWI Board of Trustees. KeWI can vote for up to 12 candidates and you can view them all on the NFWI website. We will find a way to vote quickly and simply at our February meeting.
