January Meeting

16/1/2015

Dear Member,
Thank you for braving the rather nasty January weather last Wednesday night and coming along to the first KeWI meeting of the new year.  It was lovely to see so many of you there. St Anne’s Hall was full to bursting.  Amongst the gathering of up to 60 people, were many new faces and we do hope, new or old friend, you all felt welcome.
Our Speaker last night was BBC Radio 4 producer Eleanor Garland and what a wonderfully entertaining and informative talk she gave.  Our thanks go to Eleanor for her time, but also for donating her fee to our Charity, The Women’s Safe Houses, Chiswick.  We were able to add a further £98 to the charity fund, thanks to your generosity in our Raffle.
KeWI Groups
We are fortunate at KeWI to be able to offer so much more than just our 11 monthly meetings.  We have a varied selection of groups for you to join, lead by members.  If you have ideas for a  group you are interested in setting up, please do get in touch.
Subscriptions
Thank you to everyone who has paid their subscriptions. Happily we had quite a flurry of cheques last night.  We are hoping to have a complete and up to date membership list, with payments, ready for when our own KeWI subs are required soon.  If paying your subs is something you keep meaning to do but haven’t yet, there is still time and we will accept cheques at our February meeting or you could simply pay electronically.  New members will need to fill out the membership form.  Thank you.

WI Centenary
2015 sees the centenary of the WI which is being marked by a variety of events up and down the country including a WI baton which will travel from Federation to Federation. In May the Baton will arrive in London and so on 23rd May the “London” WIs plan to gather in Hyde Park to share in the celebrations together. The organiser, Streatham WI’s president Angie, is asking for a representative or two from each London WI to join her to help make our celebrations worthy of this historic occasion. Please get in touch if you are interested.
KeWI’s Centenary celebrations
How shall we mark the 100 years of the WI? We could have a party, a Bake Off or maybe create a tapestry or quilt as a lasting memorial for KeWI?  Please do get in touch if have any ideas or would like to be a part of a small working party charged with planning KeWI’s own Centenary Celebration.
Kew Horticultural Society Quiz Night
We have a WI table for six people available at the Kew Horticultural Society Quiz night which will be held on Friday, 30th January at St Winefride’s Church Hall, Leyborne Park from 7 pm.  Tickets are £10 each. Ploughman’s Supper provided. Any takers? Simply contact us, first come first served.
Summer Horticultural Show
Volunteers are invited to help the horticultural committee prepare for this summer’s show.  Again, please contact us for more details.

Wednesday 14th January, 7.30 pm St. Anne’s Church Hall.
We are looking forward to seeing you all again and to welcoming Eleanor Garland as the speaker at our January meeting, this coming Wednesday, tomorrow evening.
Eleanor, a broadcast journalist and executive producer will be giving us an insight into the ever popular Radio Four programme “Woman’s Hour” and the world of broadcast journalism.
Refreshments will be available as usual and our Raffle in aid of The Women’s Safe Houses, Chiswick will be back.

STOP PRESS***The WI Resolutions***STOP PRESS
It’s the time of year again when each WI across the country is asked to consider supporting one of seven resolutions passed down to us by the National Federation.
Please click here for a list of this year’s resolutions.
At our January meeting tomorrow evening we need to take a vote on which of the seven resolutions each of our members support. If you are present you will be able to vote at the meeting.
If you are unable to come to the meeting, please consider the options in the attachment and let us know your voting preference by return of email. We will record your vote only once.
Our votes will be sent off and consequently in due course the list of resolutions will be reduced.
In May we will ask how you would like our delegate to vote at the WI AGM, be it either for or against the adoption of the resolution(s).
KeWI Subscriptions
Thank you so much to those who have already paid your subs!

Groups
We are readying a list of KeWI Groups and their Leader’s contact details for members which will be attached to our next email.
If you have any ideas for a Group and would be interested in leading one, please do get in touch.
